For nearly 50 years, during holidays and for special occasions, Marguerite Busch Wheat, affectionately known as Maw Maw, carefully made hundreds and hundreds of pralines for loved ones and dear friends. Following a closely guarded family recipe handed down through 4 generations of the Wheat family, she used only the best ingredients available. Maw Maw was especially particular about the pecans she put in her pralines - she gathered nuts from her own trees, then cracked and shelled each one by hand. Many times she told us, " Your candy is only as good as your pecans."
Sadly, Mrs. Wheat passed away in 1987, but she left her family and friends with a rich heritage and endearing memories.
In 1989, with the encouragement of friends and request from some local retailers who knew about Maw Maw's unique pralines, the Wheat family opened up Mrs. Wheat's Treats, naming it in honor of Marguerite Busch Wheat.
In keeping with her philosophy, we use the finest ingredients possible for our pralines - top of the line sugar, fresh butter and cream, pure vanilla, and of course, hand picked pecan halves. Each batch is made the old - fashioned way by two generations fo the Wheat family. We hand drop and hand wrap each piece of candy to insure quality and freshness.
Although our pralines are our company's specialty, we also make light, fluffy divinity, out of this world hash, praline fudge, gooey, rich turtles, and a luscious line of sugar free candies among many other things.
